Happy Friday!

How was your week? I felt great after the long weekend last week, but every time I come back to work from a longer-than-normal weekend (even just one extra day off!) it messes up my workflow so much. Does that happen to you? Anyways, now that we’re really into 2016, I’m at the point where I really want to start tackling some bigger projects I’ve been putting off now that I don’t have the excuse of holidays / bad weather to hold me back anymore (fingers crossed we’re done with snow storms for the year!). This painting you see above is a sneak peak into one of those projects that I’m talking about.  If you’re interested, feel free to follow me on instagram where I post day-to-day moments, my workspace and artwork like this!

This weekend we’re going out to celebrate a friend’s going away (back home to Brazil!) and other than that, probably going to do a lot of relaxing at home and maybe pick out a new show to binge watch. Let me know if you have any suggestions! In the meantime, here are a few things I’m reading, loving and listening to lately:

-Not only is this a killer list of 23 cool and colorful printable calendars for 2016, but it also features my hydrangea desktop 2016 calendar. Woot! :) (via The Proper Blog)
-Of all of the places I’ve travelled, the one place and people that continues to fascinate me is Japan and Japanese culture. This Japanese Book Binding tutorial appeals to that part of me and makes me so excited to go back and bring back more of their paper goods! (via Flax & Twine)

-Who doesn’t love a good emoji craft? These easy mini emoji pancakes are freakin’ cute and edible too (also great for kids) (via hello, Wonderful!)
-I must admit, I would have never come up with something like this metal hand photo garland but I love it and it’s functional too – win win situation! (via A Beautiful Mess)

Listen:
I’ve been following Tori Kelly since before she got picked up by Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager) and back when she was doing YouTube covers – if you haven’t seen her Suit & Tie cover, or any other cover for that matter, YOU MUST – and I am loving the recognition she’s finally getting! Her Grammy duet with James Bay was one of my favorites of the night and I think it’s so funny that she was an American Idol reject and now she’s a Grammy-nominated artist – proof that a “no”, even from Simon Cowell, should never stop you. This is one of my favorite songs from her and Ed Sheeran, which I would have probably played at my wedding if it was out back then!:

Tori Kelly – I Was Made For Loving You ft. Ed Sheeran

Another couple of my current faves are from two brand new albums that just dropped this month, Nine Track Mind by Charlie Puth and ANTI by Rihanna. They both have an amazing mix of pop, R&B and soulful sounds that are right up my alley and sound a lot like what I grew up listening to. I’m so glad that there’s so much new music like this coming out!!! I also really love Charlie’s backstory – he’s a classically trained jazz pianist, went to Berklee College of Music right here in my hometown, and is a music nerd through and through (has perfect pitch!). Anyways, here are a few faves from their albums:

Charlie Puth – Dangerously

Rihanna – Desperado

Rihanna – Never Ending

Here’s a song I’ve been listening to from a new singer whose voice I adore and who also kind of got her start on YouTube like Tori did. I love her voice so much that she could sing the phone book and it’d probably still sound soothing and amazing to me. Haha, but anyways, this is rumored to be her next single after the wildly popular “Here” and it also has a great message of individuality that I think is great about her as an artist.

Alessia Cara – Wild Things

And finally, a midtempo jam that’s been on repeat from my new favorite band, DNCE (I especially like to listen to this song and “Cake by the Ocean” when I do the dishes :P). They are so crazy and fun and fill the void for me now that my old favorite band Paramore probably isn’t going to be putting out new music anytime soon (or ever? :( since another member recently left the band). The frontman of DNCE is Joe Jonas from the Jonas brothers and since I was never a fan of the Jonas Brothers, this is the only way I know Joe as a musician and I think it’s awesome for him! Also, check out their guitarist JinJoo, this spunky Korean chick who is so so good (previously toured with Jordin Sparks) – I LOVE HER!

DNCE – Toothbrush

Thanks for stopping by!
